The First Presbyterian Church of Portville is a very mission-minded church. A monthly Hunger Fund Offering is one way that local mission is supported. We try to be ever mindful of community members who may have a need. Some of the organizations we support are listed below along with some information about them or a website link.
Genesis House - Our involvement with Genesis House (a temporary shelter for area homeless people) has been an on-going mission project for our church, mostly through providing financial support. We also support Genesis House by collecting needed supplies on an "as needed basis".
Interfaith Caregivers - Interfaith Caregivers is a caring community of volunteers from any faith and any age that primarily serve the frail elderly, as well as the physically, emotionally, mentally disabled and their families. Interfaith Caregivers provides friendly visitation, telephone reassurance, respite care, transportation, advocacy referral and other support services. Our church supports Interfaith Caregivers financially.
Portville Community Food Pantry - Our involvement with the food pantry goes beyond housing it at the First Presbyterian Church of Portville (see separate page). The Food Pantry Director and the Food Pantry Coordinator serve as volunteers from our congregation. Volunteers staff the Food Pantry, some of whom are members of our congregation. We also support the food pantry through congregational food drives and Hunger Fund offerings.
Warming House - The Warming House is a locally run soup kitchen (managed by St. Bonaventure University) that we support through donations of money.
Wycliffe Bible Translators - Homepage of Wycliffe Bible Translators. We currently support three volunteers who are in Thailand and a neighboring country.
Royal Family Kids Camp - camp for abused, neglected, and abandoned children located in Houghton, NY.
Other camps we support include Camp Duffield, Camp Penuel, LEEK, and we provide some of our church youth with camperships.
We actively support the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance requests and have supported Rev Janet Guyer who is serving in Malawi and associated with the PC(USA)'s Presbyterian Mission.
Pfeiffer Nature Center, Salvation Army, The Southern Tier Child Advocacy Center (also support with blankets created during our annual Fun Fleece Festival), Department of the Aging, Miriam Center for Hope and Healing, Buffalo's Kevin Guest House, Ronald McDonald House, Wings Flights of Hope, and Portville for Youth are financially supported by the church.
